One critical mission of GASP is to collect and analyze data about youth substance use in Groton. We cannot design and implement effective interventions without current and accurate information about access and use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs by teens in our community.

We conduct youth surveys every two years to ensure we have up-to-date information. These repeat surveys also serve to document successes; over ten years of working in Groton, we have seen a decrease in alcohol use by teens!

Data about teen use are important; just as important is information about parent attitudes toward underage drinking. Despite what they may say, teens care about their parents' approval and parental attitudes toward alcohol, smoking and drug use have a big impact on teen use.

Our surveys show that in Groton, 79% of adults don’t allow underage drinking at home. Be part of the majority and tell your teens their future matters and that you don't want them to drink!
